By The River Piedra I Sat Down and
Wept is a beautiful
love story, a journey that you take in your heart
as well as your mind. For me this book represents somewhat of a
lifesaver. When I first
read it I was confused about the meaning and
nature of love in this world. I’m not going to
say that this book
explains everything or that all it’s views are some sort of unshakable
truth, but I will say that it helped me find a
conclusion of my own.
The two main characters are a young man and a woman who have loved each
other since childhood but neither one has told the other, thus they
have each gone their way in life, she pursuing her studies and he
following a path of spirituality. In this story we witness as they find
each other again and
experience all the problems and obstacles that
they must face in order to reach their conclusion.
Will they be together or are other things meant for them? I find that
Paulo Coelho’s works always have a way of capturing a certain subject
and looking at it from a different point of view, sometimes from many
viewpoints, making it always an exciting experience to read his books.
Every story he tells is food for the soul and I have found nothing but
clean
good messages of tolerance, love, faith and being true to
yourself in every single one of them. It’s truly refreshing to read
something that calls for you to think but at the same time leaves you
with a feeling of compassion and the notion that there is still good in
the world. I give this book five stars.
