This book is both fictional and informational. On one page, it is a very short sentence, which rhymes, with large font and
a big picture of the insect in action, jumping, running, making a noise, etc. On the next, it is very small font and a very long paragraph giving facts about the insect. It also has a very detailed illustration of it, which
labels specific parts of that particular
creature; it gives you the main species of that creature, a termite – a queen termite, a worker termite, a soldier termite and a reproductive termite. This book is great for upper KS2 children except the left hand side pages because they are a bit easy for them. I like the end pages, which explains particular subjects to do with insects. This includes an explanation of a normal bug, the proper words for joint legged creatures (bugs), and a bit to do with the growth of an insect. I would rate this book 7/ 10 because it is brilliant (the layout, the clear labels,) even though there are a just couple of negative (and neutral) points. This is a great book for classroom, library or even for your own little home.
