What drew me first to this book was that it was written by that often bad-mouthed, adventurous and darkly-humoured
chef, Anthony Bourdain. I loved his show, and if it''''s an indication of how the book will be, I''''m pretty sure I''''ll love it too. I was not disappointed! The book catches not only your attention but your whole being from the first few pages, transporting you to wherever the
kitchen might be at a certain point in Bourdain''''s life. He has an utterly engaging way of writing that puts you right inside his shoes, making you live his life for even a few moments. You can almost feel the textures of different foods he touches, eats, smells and cooks. You will feel his frustrations about his career and his life during his lowest points. When
reading about his accomplishments, you almost do not cheer for him, but rather have a sense of pride- almost as if you were the chef who did all those things in and out the kitchen. In my mind, I was even cursing the way he did by the end of the book! And all throughout this "experience" (I
don''''t even want to call it a "book" anymore), there is always, always, his
HUMOR. If you don''''t have a dry, cynical, sometimes twisted sense of humor - you might not get what he''''s talking about half the time. I found myself laughing out loud a lot of times while sharing Bourdain''''s life. This will be an absolute treat, fun reading at its best, for chefs, gourmets, foodies, and anyone else who
enjoys food and enjoys reading.
