It''''s strange that some
books with an amazing and realistic story line miss out on the attention that they deserve.''''
Joker in the
pack'''' is one such book. After the huge success of books like Five Point Someone, Indian fiction is on a new high. Stories close to our day to day
life and characters which seem amazingly real are the highlights of such books. The best thing about such books is that it concentrates on the emotions, hardship, achievements and problems of the youth.''''Joker in the pack'''' is a book which describes the life of an individual in the coveted IIMs. It''''s a story which very clearly proves all assumptions about IIMs and life in IIMs wrong. Everyone who feels that getting into IIMs is like reaching the zenith in life need to
read the book. All the MBA aspirants must surely read this one and rethink what they want from life - a life of luxury or a simple life with the love of your life, time for your parents and a little less money. The author (or authors I may say) have described each and every moment of an IIM institute like it really is. The book brilliantly portrays all the students, their sleepless life, the
kind of run here and their schedules, the placements, the kind of "mandi" and bargain for IIM students by the companies, the summer training, the ragging, the professors, the crushes, the breakups, the failures and finally a salary package worth millions and billions. It makes you aware of the fact that 2 years of being in an IIM is not a piece of cake. It''''s even tougher to survive in an IIM than to get into one.At the end of it, all an IIM graduate is left with is a job in an MNC and a package to live life in the most luxurious way. Friends, girl friend and all relatives are left aside while achieving this luxury. You realise at the end that all the IIM students do in those 2 years is cope up and deal with the pressure. In any situation they come across, they are supposed to adjust, fight and come out
winning. And indeed they do come out winning, like a joker in the pack that goes with all the cards and makes a winning combination.I would suggest everyone to read this book atleast once and appreciate the kind of life IIM graduates live to fulfill their dreams and in most cases their parents'''' dreams (even more so for the people who expect them to be successful always).I would rate it 4/5 because the book covers everything from emotions, drama, humour and finally a lesson to learn.
