Pilote de guerre / by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
This is a great novel that teaches us so many things about the horrible things during world
war in French in 1939. This is a good
autobiographic book that will open our minds about the miseries that must be felt by many innocent civilians, children, and young soldiers.
Commandant Saint-Exupery (the author himself), is a chief of a "suicide mission" to Arras, that was in charge to take a picture about the manouvre of germany planes there. He called it suicide mission, because it was almost impossible to comeback alive. During his adventure, he saw so many sadness and destruction because of the the war. He had become the witness of the cruelty of war. Finally, he could go home alive though he there were so many obstacles to do it.
This novel is so philosohical, but not boring. There are so many profound questions from the narrator that make us think in depth about the meaning of life, death, and peace. Besides, it gives us many true-detailed descriptions about the condition of war, in the point of view of an aviator. This is a best-seller novel both in French and USA during world war II.
We can also read other outstanding works of Saint-Exupery that have received so many awards:
1. Le Vol de nuit (night flight)
