Rizal’s Conversion
            In the point of
view of those who advocate “anti-retraction letter,” Rizal did not retract because Rizal did not and was not treated as a normal Christian. They claim that Rizal did not retract because he did not receive a burial worthy of a Catholic. He did not died with the scapular on his hand as to what the picture of his assassination shows. His body did not receive the blessing by the priest thus we can say that even in his death, Rizal was true to his words and did not retract. In my own point of view, it might have been that Rizal was mistreated by the friars even in his death. It’s possible since Spanish friars, all throughout the History, have the same mistake of depriving Catholic natives with worthy Christian burial. This might also be true in Rizal’s case, that the friars could’ve sought their vengeance through the mistreatment of Rizal’s corpse.
