Rizal; A Victim of Himagsikan It was
thought that Rizal discouraged the revolution of the
Filipinos that is why he was thought to be an anti-
hero. Ironically, as Rizal opposed the ideology of the separatist group, he was the one who suffered the consequences of their actions. If such is the case, then Rizal will now be the victim of himagsikan. Looking at the context of History, we could see that Rizal was persecuted because it was thought that he was one of the ‘brains’ of the Katipunan. Bonifacio used Rizal’s name in recruiting agents for his Katipunan. The fact that he was used and accused for things that he never really imagined himself doing would definitely mean that he was the one that suffers the punishment of Bonifacio’s hidden agenda.
Who is Rizal Now? Rizal, for me is a
man of opposite characteristics. Looking at the
different stages of his
life, we can see that Rizal’s life is often surrounded by controversies that seem to split his personality into two. Because of the many hanging questions presented in the
movie, it appears to us that Rizal would be understood and interpreted differently by different people. For me, the Rizal in me is still a big question mark. If possible, I want to build my own idea of Rizal and my own interpretations of the events that happened to him. And how I will perceive him will not matter because, as quoted in the movie(bayaning third-world/Third world-hero), “Kanya-kanyang Rizal.”
