Ug

Book Review   by:efyefy     Original Author: Raymond Briggs
ª

The story of Ug, published in the year of 2001, has all the characteristics of a book written by the author Raymond Briggs. It is original, full of humor, mindful, a children''s funbook and a book which both adults and children will enjoy to read. The story, written in a form of a comic book, talks about Ug, a genius boy from the Stone Age. All Ug wants is that everything around him will be comfortable, which is not an easy task, when everything in his world is made of stone. What he wants above all is a pair of soft pants, because his current stones pants are really really uncomfortable. Ug makes his family and friends almost crazy with his constant quest for improvements and inventions. He annoys his mother by suggesting that the raw meat they eat, could be better if they could taste it the first time it''s above the fire. He irritates the other children by advising them that their stone-football they use, could be replaced by something lighter. The same applies as for Tennis and Cricket. Even Ug''s best friend doubts his mental health, as he tries to find a boat and was confused by his invention of the wheel. At the end of the story, Ug''s efforts to improve the Stone Age made no difference what so ever, and he remains firmly stuck in the Stone Age, with only the hope that one day things will be better. Typically, as always for the author Raymond Briggs, this fantastic story as it might have been in the Stone Age to this very day - not only by the inventiveness of the story, but also by the high quality of the author''s artwork drawings. This is a children''s story in every aspect, which is beyond expectations.
