144 Ways To Walk The Talk

Book Review by: DrSarbjitSingh

Original Author: Eric Harvey and Alexander Lucia
Abstract: A must read book for anyone, at any level, in any organization who is striving to provide values-driven leadership.
This quick-reference handbook contains 144 proven techniques and practical strategies for changing any workforce into self-motivated, target oriented cohesive team.  The authors have provided very practical roadmap to enhance quality of work /product, customer service, build enduring collaboration and alliances, encourage experimentation for creative /innovative solutions, ensuring integrity based performance, and achieve win-win partnership.
The authors have emphasized that it is not enough to just set values or talk values and hope for events to occur, instead one needs to DO values and make things happen every day. Leadership is not one time activity or image building. It is indeed changing way of life to do every thing efficiently every time.
This book provides interactive approach of walking about through the organization to check, correct, help and encourage employees to achieve their goals.  This brings the leader closer to their workforce and builds trust. The employees feel their leader is walking and talking around not doing fault finding but supporting all of them to do well. In this process the employee achieves sense of accomplishment and puts in more energy to keep doing well.
One needs to maintain focus on continuous improvement by walking across the organization and talking to people. Leadership is all about acting as per ones beliefs and values. It is a journey, not a destination. The fact that you may not fully achieve your target is not important. What’ is more important is for you is  to continue moving in the right direction.  Do recognize and reward those who make improvements to products, processes, and services.  Remember what gets celebrated gets repeated. This book is an excellent companion for you
