The Testament

Book Review by: thegoldquill

Original Author: Josh Grisham
Troy Phelan, the tenth richest man in America was dying, he  signed his last will of testament in the
presence of his known heirs- his three avaricious wives Lillian, Janie and Tira and their squanderous children Troy Jr., Rex, Libbigail, Mary Ross, Geena, and Ramble all of them hoping to receive a big slab of his eleven billion dollar fortune.
But their hopes seemed to be stirred when they found out that he signed a new holographic will just a moment before his tragic death.
The controversial will was read to the disappointment of the heirs and their lawyers. Troy decided  to  give his children just a sum of money necessary to pay all their debts and to his wives nothing.
Yet he gave the remainder of his estate to his illegitimate daughter Rachel Lane, who was working as a missionary among the Indians in a remote region called Pantanal in Brazil.
Josh Stafford, Troy''s lawyer, appointed Nate O'' Riley - a lawyer who was struggling for sobriety from rehab, the task of finding Rachel and have her signed the legal documents.
Rachel, refused to sign and Nate was forced to represent her as her lawyer (though he did not obtained a consent from her) for the other party had already contested the will.
The battle for Troy''s wealth extended into a series of conferences and depositions, until it led into a settlement.
The existence of Rachel  was questioned by the other party, so Nate was sent back to the Pantanal just to find out later that his client died of malaria. However, she left a holographic will bequeathing the wealth she inherited from her father to a trust from which everything needed for the mission of the World Tribes and other charities she dedicated could be taken. She entrusted to Nate the management of the trust and gave him broad discretionary powers.
The novel is really a legal thriller with a great adventure into two different worlds woven into it- the world where wealth means everything and the world where wealth means nothing. It is a battle between a group of people who inordinately lust for money and a remarkable individual who gave it all for the people she loved.
