About a Boy is one of my favourite Nick Hornby''s books.
The two main characters have very different backgrounds: Will Freeman is a thirty-six
year old who
lives on his own in a fashionable flat in Islington. He doesn''t care much for children and he is quite happy not to have to work for a living.(his dad wrote a Christmas song in 1938 so Will lives off its royalties).
On the other hand Marcus, an eleven year old comes from a split up couple. His
mother is pretty depressed, and he hates secondary school.
Circumstances throw Marcus and Will together and eventually they start to form a funny
relationship.
Marcus
learns about been cool, how to dress and what music to listen to.
Will learns a few things about Kids and he uses Marcus to pose as his son as he tries to impress a single mother witch he finds very attractive
Finally they both gain from this somewhat strange relationship, and I think that’s what I enjoyed about (About a Boy).
