The Story takes place in the nineteenth century in the United States. In this passage, the character of the wanton is going to be analyzed. The wanton is an immoral or unchaste person; a person who is playful; a person who is undisciplined or spoiled. The wanton's name is Alberta. She is a selfish person. She puts out her hands to touch things that please her and her lips to kiss them. She likes to be paid attention to. She likes the ladies who pet her and praise her beauty, and the artists who paints it naked, and the student who holds her upon his knee and folds and kisses her while he teaches her to read and spell. She is a superficial person. There is nothing very fixed or stable about her expectations- whatever they are as she has forgotten them the next day. She is an unchaste person because she does not lack for instructions in the wiles – the way of stirring a man's desire and holding it. However she doesn't need it- the secret is in her blood and looks out of her passionate. She has wanton eyes which show in every motion of her seductive body. She knows how to make her more beautiful with the money she has from the men who come whining and begging to her. Her beauty brings her love to squander and gold to squander. She is capricious. She gives her love only when and where she chooses, which kills one or two men. However life is very fair. There is one smooth-faced by knows how to tease her with his resistance. One day he seems to half –relent and another day he plays indifference. As a result she frets and fumes and rages.
