Synopsis.
Out of the blue Ilyin, an educated
and cultivated lawyer, comes to
haunt Sofya Petrovna, a 25 year old mother of
one and wife to Andriy Lubyantsev. The two
lovebirds have their
trysts away form home but somehow Sofya hesitates in giving herself to Ilyin because she
still believes in the sanctity of
marriage and thinks having a
fling is
something only fit for women of a low class.
On the verge of letting her inhibitions go, she
battles with her conscience against what she feels inside. In vain she suggests
to her
husband that they swiftly go on a tour in order to get away from Ilyin,
her childhood friend who has returned to haunt her, but the husband only gives
her a lecture on morality. In what seems an unexciting marriage Sofya finally
succumbs to what Ilyin makes her feel.
