The second book in The GameWorld trilogy. I have already written about its prequel in The Simoquin Prophecies. (read the summary of ''The Simoquin Prophecies'' before reading this)
The second book of the series starts with the return of the ravians, the people who defeated the evil rakshas, Dahn-Gem. The ravians however have not returned for peace but want to rule the world where the heroes of the book now stay.
The book also shows us the Rainbow Council, a set of seven shape-shifting members. Three ravians enter the GameWorld and seek to destroy various people and create an opening for the ravians. One of the ravians, Behrim, heads towards the Dark Tower to murder the Dark Lord while the other two attack the city of Kol. In a furious fight where dozens of people are killed by the powerful ravians, Maya gets abducted by one of the ravians while the other flees under the attack of The Rainbow Council.
Meanwhile, Kirin realises that his father was Dahn-Gem and now becomes the Dark Lord. He starts ruling the rakshases and settling various problems. His power grows everday and he spreads fear among other people along with the help of his kinsman, Aciram.
Maya tries to escape from the ravian, Myrdak. However, Myrdak was the greatest ravian alive and Maya didn''t pose a problem. When she escaped once and took shelter in a vanar camp, Myrak proceeded to destroy the entire village by himself.
Myrdak wanted to become the king of the GameWorld and he challenged Kirin to a duel, the winner taking the GameWorld.
The ravian who fleed, Peori also killed three of the Rainbow Council. But she was finally killed by a skilled warrior and assasinator, The Silver Dagger. Maya was hidden in an ancient place by Myrdak who went for his battle with Kirin.
In a prolonged and deadly fight where trees were raised from the ground and pilllars blasted apart, Kirin finally defeated Myrdak. However, in the middle of the fight, Asvin joined the fray and was killed by Myrdak.
A young member of the Rainbow Council, Red, disguised as Maya, fooled Kirin and went with him to the Dark Tower.
The book ends with Asvin waking up along with other people dead and he joins the great army of the Scorpion Man,who finally are released into the open.
Another army, to destroy everyone.
The third and last book is sure to be amazing. Samit Basu is a skilled writer and should be up there with the greats along with J.K Rowling, Anthony Horowitz, Eoin Colfer etc.
I hope you get your hands on this book. I''m reading the third and final part and will soon give you a summary on that one too.
Try to purchase this book. It''s a magnificent book where suspense, mystery, surprise and adventure are all enclosed together to make a superb piece of literature.
