LEGENDS OF AMERICA: THE PROMISED LAND (Aztec).

Book Review by: hardys39

Original Author: SELECCIÓN DE LUCÍA GIÚDICE.
This abstract was translated from LEYENDAS DE AMÉRICA: LA TIERRA PROMETIDA (Azteca).
Very badly asleep, nudes, injured men, they were
walking during more than two centuries. They were going in search
of that promised and
uncertain place where the ground would spread between canes and reeds, and the
lagoon would glisten to the sun, with the small island emerging of his waters.Several times, disoriented, got lost; several times
dispersed and turned to be. They were knocked down by the winds and they
crawled for the desert, sticking some with others, pushing itself, striking
itself, with atrocious famine...They fell down and raised, and again they fell down
and they returned to rise...
In the volcanic region, where the grass never grows,
his only food was the meat of the reptiles...They were bringing the flag and the layer of the
terrible god who had spoken to the priests, in an indicative sleep, and he had
promised them the whole golden kingdom and pens of quetzal, holding from sea to
sea all the other kingdoms, all the peoples and cities; not for a charm, but
for the big fortitude of his heart and the enormous valor of his arms.
When showing itself to the luminous lagoon, under the
warm sun of the midday, the Aztecs cried for the first time: there, in this
place, the small longed island was: on the Nogal,  it raised over the reeds and brave straws, an
imposing eagle was extending his wings. On having seen them, the eagle humiliated his head:
these pariahs, who remained accumulated to the shore of the lagoon, tremulous,
greasy ..., they were the elected ones; they were those who long ago had been born
of the mouths of the gods.
Huitzilopochtli gave him then the welcome: - '' This is
the place of our rest and our nobility '' - the powerful voice resounded-, '' I
order that there should be called Tenochtitlán the glorious city that will be
the queen and lady of all other. Mexico is here! ''
