LEGENDS OF AMERICA: THE SPOT OF THE INTI (L. Inca).

Book Review by: hardys39

Original Author: SELECCIÓN DE LUCÍA GIÚDICE.
This abstract was translated from LEYENDAS DE AMÉRICA: LA MANCHA DEL INTI (L. Inca).
The King Lloque Yupanqui, who, from the death of his
father, Rocca, it went so far as to realize the most daring companies.
It came
up to the province of Cana, where he submitted without fighting the wild
tribes, and, by means of promises and speeches, it obtained that they left its
bloody idolatry and they rendered worship to the Inti. Then they followed the ayavirís, to which he submitted
on having put place and having conquered them with the famine, after a long and
bloody struggle, and a long resistance, because they did not serve the methods
used with the Canas.
The Inca treated with benevolence the defeated ones;
it assigned them amautas (wise persons), so that they were learning in the
worship to the solar deity and in the obedience to the Inca, the Son of the
Sun; who then, it went away to Cuzco, and it was received by solemn holidays
and homage. These events narrate the chronicles.
But the legend wants another thing: the Inca, had
chained the principal chiefs, the bravest warriors, venerable elders and more
beautiful women; proposing to do with them a particular lesson: they all had to
die opposite to the image of the Sun, in the sacred temple of Cuzco. Spent the holidays of reception and homage, in the
more important one there had still to die the victims of the revenge of the
Sun.This day the king entered the temple escorted by his
more valiant soldiers, high dignitaries of the court, and finally, the group of
defeated ayarivís, destined for the sacrifice.
The temple of the Sun was glistening with his high
walls covered with golden plates; and, in the wall that was facing at the edge
of entry, occupying her completely, the image of the Sun, of pure gold,
circular and surrounded with igneous beams. To one and another side of this
image, only in the temple, there were the embalmed bodies of the dead kings, as
if they were alive, seated in golden chairs, presiding at the rituals of the
worship.
The destined ones to die were waiting, opposite to the face of the Sun. Lloque Yupanqui, armed, went forward to sacrifice in
person the chief of the ayarivís; then his chiefs and warriors would sacrifice
the others, according to his importance, in order to take for his Father
complete revenge on insubordinate those.
The king took from the hairs to the boss ayariví, and
directed the look to the image of the Sun, offering him that sacrifice... But
it did not go so far as to do it. It remained pale and trembling, the fixed
look in the image of the god, and they saw all what the cause was: on the disc
of pure gold of the Sun, red, a blood spot was seen.Him the big priest approaches and he says to him: -
" Son of the Sun, your father does not want that your hands get dirty with
the blood of this impure rebel ".- "Be" - said the Inca-. And it ordered that
more old man of between his chiefs should to kill it.
This one threw the head of his victim backwards, and,
with the sword in high place, he hoped for the order to kill. More the Inca,
put the eyes in the image of the Sun, was waiting that it was eliminating the
horrible spot of blood.Which was not happening. The big priest goes forward and he says: - '' Son of
the Sun, this elder must not die. The Inti, your Father, does not want that he
dies ''. And it was indicating the threatening bloody spot.- '' Good, I excuse it '' - the Inca said, and it
ordered to bring other of the chiefs ayarivís to be sacrificed.
More the same happened. And the same happened with
almost all the prisoners. The Sun ordered it with its spot of blood. And there came the shift of the last one of the women,
who, knelt down, interrogated the Inca with the look. The bloody spot was
always there: the order of pardon. And the Inca excused her.
The blood spot disappeared of the disc of pure gold.
To the Sun, fecund god, him the sacrifices were ungrateful. His worshipwas
neither bloody nor vindictive: it was the pacific and pure worship of the
forget.Like that is that, from Lloque Yupanqui, third
sovereign, the Incas adopted this politics, which so much amazed the European
barbarians, ignoramuses of what for those natives was a supreme obligation:
piety and tolerance for the defeated ones.
