This book was recommended by my sis-in-law. At first the book struck
me as similar to "the green mile" by Stephen king" . It started out
the same way. you know, Home for the aged setting.. Old person
reminiscing.. I almost stopped reading but i decided to give it a shot.
The book is great. It was about life in the circus circa 1930’s.
The book showed that life in the circus wasn’t all fun. it also had a
sinister aspect to it. I didn’t even have an idea that ringmasters
were so cruel as to "redlight" their men when they no longer have a need
for them or when the circus has no money. it also depicted how workmen
were treated lower than the circus animals and were treated differently
from the performers. it was really sad but it was nice because it helped us younger
generation to know a bit of the past. It might be fiction but I know
that it was based on what happened before. I am actually jealous of
the old ones who were able to experience real circus.
