What Happens To The Van Legge Family?
“Haunted Lighthouse” was written by RL Stine, who is the number~ one best~ selling children’s author of all time. R L Stine’s “Haunted Lighthouse” premiered at Busch Gardens and Sea World. The authors tone is projected into the expansion of this film, into an original novel for kids.
The first person point of view is from William, the son of Gus Van Legge, who is also the protagonist and narrator of the story. The plot of the “Haunted Lighthouse” consist of a flashback of what happened a hundred years earlier. The setting took place in 1879 at Cape Cod. The story is about the Van Legge family, who took a vacation to Boston. But it all started when they was ready to return home, the atmosphere was real stormy.
William noticed a ship in the dark water. They asked the captain if they could board to return home. The captain said “yes”, but warned them that they would be boarding a ghost ship. On the way home to the island, the crew disappeared; so Gus Van Legge had to steer the ship back home. But before they reached the shore, the ship jolted hard crashing into the rock shoals at the opening to the cove.
The ship started sinking and only three of them could ride in the dinghy that was aboard the ship to the shore. The symbol where Gus took William Edgar and Annie is to the lighthouse on the shore. Where they was to wait for their father to bring their mother back. As William and Annie went in the lighthouse, they noticed that the beacon had been Wall 2
turned off.
One hundred years past and Edgar decided to go to the beach. Where he spotted a girl, Ashley and her brother Mike. They told him that a captain on shore had told them ghost stories about the lighthouse on the island. So Ashley and Mike wanted to go to the island to see if the stories were true. So all of them got a canoe and went across the water to the lighthouse.
When they reached shore, they walked up to the lighthouse and went inside. As they entered, there was howling and things began falling of the walls. Suddenly, a girl appeared named Annie. She told them that she was one of the ghost and William was the other. But Ashley and Mike did not believe; until William took off his head. Then they said that they wanted to make them their friends so they would not be lonely anymore, but they had to turn into ghost first. Mike and Ashley got scared, so they ran to the top of the lighthouse.
As Ashley reached the top, she lost her balance and began to fall. As she started to fall, she reached out and grabbed the beacon light switch. Then all of the sudden; the light came on. As William and Annie appeared out the window, they spotted a dinghy that their parents were in outside. Their parents finally was able to see the lighthouse with the light back on. So after a hundred years, they all finally got reunited. Afterwards, Ashley and Mike got to return home to the beach in one peace.
The climax of the story is when the storm overcomes the Van Legge’s family from reaching home on the ship safely. The theme that the author was stating is to never give up hope. Because things will come through eventually, it just takes time.

The “Haunted Lighthouse” is a fantastic story about two ghost, wanting to be reunited with their parents. It may have took them a hundred years to get back together, but all thing are possible if you believe. This story is symbolizing how important it is to wait for things because some takes a while to become true. The ghost children were so sad and lonely waiting all those years to be reunited with their parents. It may have taken a long time but in the long run, it was so worth it. It was a wonderful feeling to be back together as a family. If you believe and have hope then all things are possible
