At the death of King Henry VII in 1509, Henry, his second son, became king of England and married Catherine of Aragon, the widow of his brother Arthur. Henry VIII, assisted by the brilliant and ambitious Cardinal Wolsey - a son of an innkeeper whose ambition is the  papal tiara - provided a set of alliances to England, a leading position on the European chessboard. The eldest of the Tudor, Margareth married James IV and  became queen of Scotland. Only one of the young woman''s  sons  survived. Margareth tried somehow to maintain peace between Scotland and England. But close to the French, James IV went to war against its powerful neighbour and brother-in-law. The Scottish defeat at the Battle of Flodden, during which James IV died, gave the crown to the young James, son of Margareth, aged just one year. Mary, the sister of Henry VIII, married the aging king of France, Louis XII, who just lost his wife, Anne of Brittany. Soon widow, Mary married secretly in Paris her lover, the Duke of Suffolk, and returned to England after obtaining the forgiveness of her brother, Henry VIII. A curse seemed to hit Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon when five of their six children died at birth. Convinced that he has committed a mistake by marrying his sister-in-law, Henry VIII seeked the annulment of their marriage. He is already in love with a brilliant and ambitious woman, Anne Boleyn, niece of the powerful Duke of Norfolk. But Anne is determined to give herself to the king only after marriage.... A ruthless and long struggle begins between Anne and the conquering and stubborn Catherine ...
