Like the other Harry Potter installations, ‘The Deathly Hollows’ narrates the journey of Harry Potter from being the ‘boy who lived’ to being the young man who wills to survive, from being the cause of the deaths of many individuals—magical and non-magical creatures, alike—to being the strength, inspiration, and savior of everyone.
The story begins with a mission that Dumbledore entrusted Harry, Hermione, and Ron to accomplish: to destroy all that remains of the Dark Lord, Voldermort, which could finally put an end to all that is evil and spell his fall. Furthermore, added to the already difficult task before them are the few things that Dumbledore left each one, that when deciphered well could help them accept the most unbelievable truths behind some characters’ true being, unlock other mysteries that for decades or centuries have been thought of only as a myth, and understand further the recent past and the prevailing present of both Harry Potter and the Dark Lord. Or simply put, events, occurences, and revelations that could provide answers to every question and doubt in everyone’s mind and heart.
A story is not without its theme(s). So taking 'The Deathly Hollows’ as the conclusion of the story, it is also important to take in, take note of, and include the conclusion of the themes that revolve around the story and that have made the Harry Potter series worth reading: Love. What was it with love that the Dark Lord could not understand? How was it possible for Harry and his friends to defeat the Dark Lord with Love?; trust. How much trust should be given? How do you know whom to trust?; Friendship. How important is it to have friends?; Family. What does it mean to be and have a family, and to what extent should a family be? Who and what is family?
Indeed, the last installation of the Harry Potter series, The Deathly Hollows, is another big hit for J.K. Rowling, to say the obvious. As expected, she delivered the goods yet again. One cannot just help oneself from flipping and reading more and more pages after the other. Definitely, Rowling knows her craft.
