Book Review by: Albeiror24

Original Author: S.L.
This abstract was translated from Gabriel García Márquez
First of all we are going to underline the differences between prose and verse.
In the first years of the 20th century,
there is more lyrical than novel and this is the reason why lyric had a best evolution. The novel followed the steps marked during the 19th century for a long time, therefore, when it comes the revolution, novel became the most important worldwide.
In its evolution we can distinguish three periods:
1. It follows the course of the 19th century until about 1940 or 1945.
2. It started the rennovation between 1945 and 1960.
3. The time of more splendor was after 1960.
At the beginning of the 19th century it is possible to distinguish the following topics:
1. The nature: they put attention to great forest like the Amazon, the mountain ranges, the Pampa, the Altiplano...
2. The politic problems: the need of political changes, due to an instability that needs either revolutions or contra-revolutions.
3. The social problems: the results of the mentioned political instability.
Since 1940 started to come out new topics. Although the former ones were not abanoned, there is a search for a new way to deal with them. Among those topics one of the most important was the urban one and a variety of human and existencialists topics. It is also to mention the coming of magic and fantastic topics.
In the year 1967 it was published in Spain "One Hundred Year of Solitud" of Gabriel García Márquez, who besides other authors created the boom of the Hispanic American novel. The main problem for García Márquez is the individual authenticity within an injust society. This worry is the based of the protagonist of "The Nap of the Tuesday" that is the sketch of the Colonel in the work "No One Writes to the Colonel". This veteran of war had 15 years waiting for a pension. The Colonel had a son who was shot and he is in great poverty. Moreover, the town is dominated by his politic enemies. Without other thing than his fighting cock, his dignity and his proudness, he died of hunger at the end of the novel.
He was born in Colombia in 1929 and comes to the "Boom" of the Hispano-American novel. One of the qualities of this author is his "gift to tell". Between 1955 and 1962 he wrote several stories like The Litter, No One Writes to the Colonel, The Funeral of Grand Mamma... stories around the town of Macondo that passed from a fictional reality to consolidate what would be the work "One Hundred Years of Solitud", one of the best works of the Spanish language. In this work is reflected the heat topics of the time. He published after a volume of stories, the novel The Autumn of the Patriarch and Chronicle of an Announced Dead. In 1982 he got the Novel Prize of Literature and he finised "Love in Time of Cholera".
