Wahihi Ulehu is born into poverty. He is born with all the disadvantages everyone hates, he is poor, ugly and antisocial. Even his parents are ashamed of his looks and keep him away from visitors.
His ugly looks and empty pockets make him a pariah child all through his school years. At a point he decides to travel to Lagos, one of the biggest towns in his country, because he believes the streets are paved with gold; all his townsmen in Lagos always seem rich when they return home.
Alas wealth is not to be his tale in Lagos. His relative whom he hoped to lodge with has moved from the given address, so he ends up homeless and jobless. He starts carrying excreta at night as an occupation, i.e he became a night soilman and he sleeps under a bridge.
Just about when he thinks of retuning to Lagos, he bumps into a girl in the market, the girl happens to have one bad eye. She is also the daughter of a very wealthy man. Her tale is very similar to Wahihi's own: because of her blind eye she is the black sheep of her social family. She had been on her way to commit suicide after a heartbreak when Wahihi bumped into her so she believed he saved her life.
Grace introduces Wahihi to her family who are initially biased, but give in to the two lovebirds later on. Her father than concentrates on raising Wahihi's social status, giving him a flat, a job and a car as wedding presents. Grace soon gets pregnant and life looks like it couldn't be rosier.
One evening however, Grace has a car accident and dies. Wahihi feels his life is over... Hope stumbles his way anyway, as a prophet visits the hospital and raises Grace from the dead. Whew! what a happy ending!
