His third and final book in what is known as Lewis' Space Trilogy "That Hideous Strength" combines elements of
fantasy, the fight between good and evil, and
science fiction all encompassed quite pleasantly in the backdrop of the culture of a Post-War World II England. Not only has he managed to combine these classic elements of
literature which are almost always exclusively presented as genre but he has managed to combine his own theological views and painted them into this novel with a science fiction like explanation of what he describes as natural phenomena. There are present in his pages as there are in all great novels small vignettes of profound wisdom that protrude from his subconcious on to the pages of his fictional story that have their origination in the core of his own personal convictions and beleifs. What Lewis has created here is a delightful blend of ordinary and fantasy with a dash of theology and science fiction thrown in as a spice just to make the taste of his story long on the palate and sweet on the mind. This is truly the work of a man who knows how to choose his words, sentences and characters well. An educated man who pours from the pen a fountain of experience and wisdom as well as delightful entertainment.
