The Catcher in the Rye
Written by J.D. Salinger
Abstract by Brett A. Hawkins
J.D. Salinger's best work comes to life in the american classic Catcher in the Rye!
We follow our young hero, prep school dropout Holden Caulfield as he
leaves (yet another) prep school and returns home. Almost every
aspect of his life is revealed in thie charming, yet blunt tale into
the journey of a teenager's mind. J.D. Salinger's vulgar, raw and
highly sophomoric writing style has earned Catcher in the Rye on many
library banned lists. Yet, throughout the
book, you can sympathize with
our protagonist Holden, whether he's talking on the phone with his
charming kid sister, conversing with a former classmate's mother on a
train or even soliciting a prostitute, Holden
experiences it all by the
last
page.
Many have wondered why this tale of teenage rebellion and vulgar
sarcasm was titled "The Catcher in the Rye". Read it. This work
of literature is not to be missed. If you haven't figured it out by the
time the book is finished, you didn't read it.
Some have found this book to be offensive, others have found it
hilarious, and I do
think that all of us have shared at least one of
Holden's experiences as described in this tale. This story makes
one
really dig down and think about who they really are, and what
they're capable of. Take my word for it, if you're like me, you'll be
laughing before you've even finished the first page!
