Ren, an orphan who is missing his left hand- he's not aware of how- He does not know anything about his
past but he strongly desires for a caring family of his own. His life in a Catholic
orphanage/monastery is not easy, but also not tragic.
When a young man named Benjamin arrives at the orphanage and claims to be his distant relative. Benjamin weaves a tale of a father who lived a high
adventure and the tragic (but exciting) circumstances that took their parents away. Ren jumps at the chance to live a normal life and have a real family but this dream is shattered almost immediately, when Ren's new "benefactor" engages him in a life of petty theft, fraud, and robbing. Gradually, Ren discovers that Benjamin is a skilled liar.
Ren’s perspective on life, the way he visualizes situations, and his attempt to stay true to an ever-challenged moral code was very adorable, and the cast of characters he encounters is so memorable but the problem is that the story became too foreseeable towards the end.
Though it is not a perfect book, yet is a fun read, something that has elements of fantasy and adventure in it. A little more could have been added; however the will still have you engaged from beginning to end.
