Chasing Harry Winston

Book Review by: DevikaAL

Original Author: Lauren Weisberger
Coming after the release of Devil Wears Prada, this book is surprisingly disappointing. A regular "chick-lit”, meant as a
light read is a book of 3 friends with distinct lifestyles. All three are not happy with the way their lives are shaping up and thus resolve to dramatically change their ways for a year.
Leigh, an editor loves her job, has a wonderful, loving and famous boyfriend. Her life seems perfect and envious especially after she is being popped the question and without thinking twice she agrees only because he seems perfect in all the ways that she had dreamed of. Yet something seems amiss, the spark that they once shared has flown away and the need to mend her ways and break the engagement comes only after she meets her "Mr. Right".
Adriana is a typical rich spoilt girl living alone in her big penthouse. Her Brazilian features add on to her assets. Her daily schedule consists of shopping and gossiping with her gay hairdresser. Her resolution comprises of toning down her wild ways and settling down for a year with one man along with a Harry Winston on her finger. Her plans of settling down only for a year goes haywire when she falls for a rich movie maker , gets engaged and plan to marry and be with him for the rest of her life.
Emmy, a sweet girl with ambition of having a loving family is on the verge of fulfilling her dream when her long time sweetheart and fiancée leaves her for a prettier and younger trainer. Having all her marital plans gone kaput and urged by her friends she goes on to travel the world and sleep with one man in each continent. Only to find her true love in one of her escapade.
The book although sweet is flawed because of the uncanny resemblance with other books of this genre. The book is full of clichés, rich spoilt girl taming her ways and the sweet girl going wild. The end is a bit of a disappointment with a predictable turn of events. Each one finding the perfect man, along with a perfect match with their specified pre-requisite.
It’s a book for light and easy read. Sitting along the beach, with the Sun lazing over is a perfect idyllic setting for this book. And that’s exactly how I read it.
