Deep ROOTS

Book Review   by:monchichi     Original Author: J.L.ZORRILLA O.

Some time ago, I had a neighbour who was a doctor and he had a special hobby: to plant trees into the big yard of his house. Sometimes, I observed from my window his effort to plant more and more trees every day. But I noticed that he never watered the buds of theses trees. Later, I noticed that those trees grow very slowly. Certain day, I decided to ask him if he doesn’t mind that they aren’t growing up, as he doesn’t water them. He proceeds to explain me then proudly his fantastic theory. He told me if he water the trees, the roots would accommodate on the surface and would always wait to get their water easily which comes from above. But as he doesn’t water them, the roots grow deep into the ground, so they become resistant to any inclemency.  He add up that he also gives sometimes some slaps with a doubled diary  to make sure that the trees rest awake and attempt. This was the only conversation I had with my neighbour. Time after I went to live to another country and I never saw him again. Several years after, when I returned, I visited my old residence. Once close to the place, I noticed a wood which hasn’t been there before! My old neighbour realized his dream! It was windy and cold this day and the trees on the street curiously get arched under the wind, but not so the trees in the yard of the doctor, they resist the cold winter day. They were strong enough to resist the wind and the practically didn’t move. Which curious effect, I thought. Remembering the way in which condition they grew up, it seems that with more comfort and an easier way the never would have reached it. Every night before I go to bed, I always have a look on my children. I observe their beds and I notice how they grew up. Frequently, I pray for them. Mostly, I ask for them to have an easy live, they should  not suffer under the difficulties and the aggressions of this world…in the meantime, I thought it’s time to change my requests. It’s unavoidable that the frozen and strong winds reach us. I know that the will find many difficulties, and my wishes that those difficulties never happens have been very ingenious. There will be always some kind of storm some time during our lives.  Even we want it or not, the live isn’t easy. Now I changed my way of praying and I ask for my children to grow up with deep roots, able to get always the best energy in the most difficult places. We always ask for facilities, but what we really need is deep and strong roots, so that we will be able to resist any storm, any frozen wind at any time, instead of getting subjugated and swept-up. The nature teaches us many things, if we know to recognize them.
