As we interact with a book entitled
Jesus Driven Ministry, we will regain our attention to the
importance of a lifestyle
in leadership. I would like to summarize his all ideas regarding to lifestyle into two aspects, namely, vertical and
horizontal aspects. By vertical aspect, I argue that Fernando suggests that what the Christian leader does must have a connection with God. This aspect contains seven characteristics: (1) A Christian leader must be empowered by the Spirit. (2) A Christian leader must realize that he/she is affirmed by God. (3) A Christian leader must be able to retreat from activity. (4) A Christian leader must be affirmed by God’s will. (5) A Christian leader must be saturated in the word of God. (6) A Christian leader must believe that God’s grace is adequate for him/her in facing wild animals. (7) A Christian leader must have a time to pray.
Second aspect that should not be overlooked is horizontal aspect. By this aspect, I summarize his next suggestions that what the Christian leader does must have to do with people. The horizontal aspect also contains seven characteristics: (1) A Christian leader must identify with people. (2) A Christian leader must bear the Good News. (3) A Christian leader must grow in a team. (4) A Christian leader must help other Christians to become disciple of Christ. (5) A Christian leader must care for those he/she leads. (6) A Christian leader must minister to the sick and demon-possessed. (7) A Christian leader must do visitation.
