As we live in unpredictable world, we could encounter crises and disasters that can leave us with traumatic experience. Unexpected
death of beloved one, a vehicle crash, a natural disaster could be some of traumatic experiences.
In On Wings of Storm, a veteran Singaporean counselor, takes us through this issue pertaining to trauma with its symptoms. He categorized its symptoms into three things: (1) general hyper arousal, (2) intrusive remembering, (3) numbness of responsiveness. Each of them is explained in a practical way. Many examples are given.
He also describes the process of trauma, modifying from the five stages of Elizabeth Kubler Ross. Then, he goes to discuss about helping children make sense of their traumatic experience. Readers will see the devastating impacts from physiological, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects.
Finally, Yeo brings us into key processes that facilitate hope and healing with his 5 R: (1) remembrance, (2) restoration, (3) review, (4) resilience, (5) reminder--a suggestion on how to live in our unpredictable world wisely.
