Book Review by: Inkvisitor

Original Author: Homer
This abstract was translated from Iliada i Odyseja
The Homer "Iliad", the Homer "Odyssey" and the Wergilius "Eneida" are the most frequently, besides songs of Horatio and classical
tragedies, read writing of the antiquity. They are representing lively in literature kind – epic.Among these works valuable to scholars of literature in general and the era is the "Iliad". The literary work was quite early - at the IX and VIII century BC (some sources report that in the VIII century), and has been incorporated in writing in the VI century BC. Enjoyed and still enjoys great interest translators, and was repeatedly translated, in part, and also in the whole Poland. The most popular translation of Francis Xavier Dmochowskiego has been issued in a series of National Library. Those literary work was already several times renewed. "Iliad" is an interesting literary work, in many respects. It is a inexhaustible source of literary themes and symbols, is a treasury of knowledge about the life of people from many centuries ago, it announcing about everyday duties, about the fight and about the work, about dresses, entertainment, blood ties and their consequences. From cards „ of Illiad ” it is possible to learn about coexisting of two worlds – of gods and heroes – which are accessing with themselves into businesses of different kind and connections. Work based on Greek myths is one of basic work being the underlying reason for European culture. The Epos - the Contemporary theory of the kind arose on the basis of the inspection of epics of Homer. After exchanged here ancient implementations of this kind („ Illiad ”, „ The Odyssey ”, „ Aeneid ”) they returned to the epic only in the period of the Renaissance. Examples are the Italian text: "Orland crazy" Ariosta (1516) and "Jerusalem liberated" Tassa (1581), are known from translations of Peter Kochanowski. In the XVII century, appears to "Paradise lost" Milton''s and the English literature on the basis of "Chocimska war" by Potocki, "Władysław IV" and "The Civil war" by Twardowski, "Work of God" by Kochanowski. Epos for over time, begins to function as an additional teaching. During the period of enlightenment was not very successful "Chocimska war " by Krasicki. Romanticism in English literature brought into the most famous work of this species (but significantly different from the classical shape) - "Pan Tadeusz" by Mickiewicz. A medieval chivalric epic known in literature went a slightly different way, and evolved independently of the ancient.
