its a story of a princess who is
banished from the
kingdom.the play opens with sibling rivalry between
oliver
and
orlando.orlando thinks he has not received the kind
of
education a gentleman should and oliver has kept his
promise to their dead father.so he decides to wrestle
charles,the court wrestler so that he earns money and
leave
oliver.oliver charges charles to kill orlando.he
reveals in
his soliloquy that he hates orlando because he is more
liked by people that they like him.the second scene
introduces rosalind and celia.they are invited to watch
the
wrestling match.rosalind and orlando fall in love at
first
sight.orlando defeats charles.the duke who usurped the
authority of his elder brother and
banished him to the
forest of arden,also banishes orlando as his father had
supported the banished duke.the duke also banishes
rosalind
as she is the daughter of the elder duke and also
because
she is more popular than his own daughter celia.celia
loves
rosalind so much that she also decides to go with her
to
the forest along with the fool,touchstone.risalind
disguises herself as aa boy ganymede and celia as her
sister aliena.they go to the forest and buy a cottage
from
the shpherds,corin and sivius.silvius is madly in love
with
a shepherdess,phebe,but she scorns his love.orlando
also
comes to the forest and befriends the duke and his
lords.he
pines for rosalind and writes verses for her and sticks
them to the trees. rosalind sees them but doesnot like
the
poetry.they meet in the forest but she doesnot reveal
herself to him.she puts him through a love test where
as
ganymede,she pretends to be rosalind.orlando passes the
test.phebe falls in love with ganymede.oliver comes to
the
forest whjere orlando saves him from a lioness.this
changes
the heart of oliver.he falls in love with celia and
gives
up all property to orlando.rosalind finds her father
and
solves all the love-tangles. she makes phebe accept
silvius.she reveals herself to everyone and rosalind-
orlando,celia-oliver,silvius-phebe get married.the
younger
duke also realises his mistake and gives back the
kingdom
to the elder duke.
