Esther

Article Review by: Sharon Jo

Original Author: THE BIBLE

THE BOOK OF ESTHER

The book of Esther is one of the very few books of Bible, that concentrate entirely on a woman. Many biblical scholars are of the view, that this book is extreneous to the Bible. But Some researchers feel that it is one of the important books in bible, for it asserted the hand of God over the Israelites. God watches over his righteous people, like a mother bird looks after its chicks. This is the message of the book. It portrays a courageous queen, who played a vitol role in saving the entire Jewish race. A man called Haman, a powerful officer of the kingdom became jealous of Jews. This is because of the popularity and prosperity enjoyed by the Jewish people in Persia. He plans to wipe out whole Jewish race from the face of the earth. This scheme was foiled by the graceous and humble queen Esther. She follows the advice of her wise uncle Mordecai, and gets the favour of the King and in the process, saves her Jewish race. This book also gives the historical details of Jews in an alien land, Persia.
