Its a
Sci-fi Comedy of
Galactic proportions. Yet everything you read in it,
somehow, seems to understandable; you are able to link
it to
our tiny worlds on this island called Earth.
Though it appears to be a comedy, it has an underlying
philosophical track, raising the question “The
Answer to
Life, the
Universe, and Everything”. Then turning it
around
to make us realize that more than the answer, what you
really need to know is 'What was the Question?'.
Quite shockingly, the
story starts with the Earth being
blown up to make way for a "hyperspace bypass", a cosmic
equivalent term for a flyover. But the schock is short-
lived
for the protaganist, the lone survivor who goes on to
expolore the Universe and its meaning.
"The Answer is 42" is a very popular dialogue from this
book, which has a cult status among Sci-fi enthusiasts
and
scientists alike. Coincidentally, a group of scientists
searching for one of the fundamental keys to the
universe
also arrived at the same answer. Click this link for

A glimpse into the story? Arthur Dent, who was worried
about
his house being blown away due to a highway, suddenly
has
his problems solved; the planet Earth itself needs to be
“cleared away” to make way for a hyperspace bypass! From
then on, the story races through the galaxy on a larger
than
life mission. As Arthur Dent struggles to find the
meaning
and purpose of the things happening in his life, his
trusted
companions are “Ford Perfect”, who was a researcher for
a
book rightly called the “Hithiker’s Guide to the
Galaxy”,
and the book itself.
