Shortly after a difficult breakup, Martha is visiting her friend's parents in Fire Island. While out on the beach, she encounters a
group of women who, it turns out, have gathered to worship the Goddess. After saving the leader from drowning, Martha is
invited to join the group.
Slowly Martha becomes increasingly sucked into the Goddess group. She is invited to come to New Mexico with them to attend a spiritual retreat. While there, she
begins to notice more and more how she does not belong; she is not truly a believer in the Goddess and has instead simply latched on for companionship. As they engage in more and more strange behaviors, she begins to pull away and to wonder who she
really is and where she really fits in.
