Book Review by: Krazny

Original Author: Julles Verne
This abstract was translated from עשרים אלף מיל מתחת למים
On April 13th,1867 a Canadian ship runs into an enormous mysterious creature and is almost capsized. "The monster from the
depths of the ocean!" was on the first pages of every newspaper, and the entire public demanded the beast be hunted down and dealt with.
An American warship is sent to find and destroy the monster, and on it were Professor Pierre Arronax, a famous French scientist, along with Conseil, his brave assistant and Ned Land, a valiant whaler. During an attempt to hunt the beast, the three are washed overboard, and find themselves aboard an unknown kind of craft, the Nautilaus - an amazingly technologically advanced, electrically powered submarine. They meet Captain Nemo, the commander of the vessel - a mysterious genious who had severed his ties with the rest of mankind, and accompany him in his underwater journeys. 20 thousand leagues are travelled, across which the three have many hair-raising adventures: They go hunting in underwater forests, miraculously escape from savage cannibals, visit the lost city of Atlantis, travel through a mysterious canal connecting the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, battle giant squids, discover the south pole and are nearly trapped under the icebergs found there.
