It also helps in the treatment of rheumatic pain,inflammation of joints,nervous disorders and epilepsy,Ashwagandha has marked its presence in the internatoin market,too,and is known as Indian ginseng. “It is also considered a premier anti-ageing herb,”said Dr.B.Rajeswara RAo,a scientist of the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Hyderabad.”It has been held in high regard for its ability to increase vitality.” New research by the city based L.V.Prasad Eye Institute has found that the anti oxidative properties of Ashwagandha help in retarding cataract formatin. The use of ashwagandha to cure ailments and to increase vitality is at least 4,000 yeaers old. It has been mentioned in the ancient texts of Ayurveda. The Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas hail it as a tonic to enhance reproductive funcitn of both men and women. “Most people choose it as aphrodisiac,but it has multiple uses.”said Dr.V.L.N.SAstry of the Government Ayurvedic Research Centre. “Basically,it rejuvenates tssues and gives stamina. There is huge demand for it nowadays. Ezxperts term it an”adaptogen”. Herbs such as Ashwagandha create balance or homoeostasis and giv patients a heightened sense of well-being,”said Mr P.Narsimha Rao,member of the State’sGovernment Ayurvedic Hospital Development Society.”It will surely become more popular in the west.
