The Author made me offend international rules! Yes! I crash
landed in pre communist China, lived there for more than four
decades, with out freight tickets, passport and visa! I am
going to sue Mr.Anthony Grey for the hyper tension disorders
for the entire week while I read this incredible novel. How
can I sleep after knowing that a month old baby is being
carried in a sack stealthily along the historical long
march of China? The cute little girl Abigail, born to the Pastor
couple posted in China had squeezed my
heart as if an orange
was crushed into pulp! Her mother Felicity was beheaded by
the early
communists who were on the long
march,held her
father as a hostage and co-traveler never
found out that a little suckle orphan baby is traveling in
the entire span of one year! Her father chained like a
prisoner followed the
flag of the communists. The star
denoted the sign of communism to the soldiers. On the other
hand he was motivated to follow the flag as if it is the
star of the David! Superb plot!
Great twists! Heart glowing
sentiments, like the husband pardoning the killer of his
wife. Historical quotes like "The death by thousand cuts"
are invaluable archives of information! A must read for the
political, social, psychological students, teachers and the
readers in general! Eventhough Miss.Abigail had become a
teacher in the modern China and her father was a
political editor on China and works from Hong cong, I never felt happy
till date because the undercurrent of soldiers of the valor
were being humiliated by the later developments like "Bloom
of hundred flowers" by Mao. Once again the author captures
our heart in its entirety and takes with him a chunk of our
soul forever! Thank you Mr.Grey! Thank you for taking me to
China in a sack through the ordeals of the great march!
