Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution

Book Review by: Stephanie Kjaerbaek

Original Author: Atkins, Robert C. MD.
In the past, I read this book and found that some of the advice pertaining to nutrition and medical issues rather informative.
However, some of the information is misleading and not based entirely on accurate scientific research. The recipe section is useful for anyone wanting to make low- carbohydrate meals and snacks. This book could be useful for someone with hypoglycemia or diabetes and their doctor or nutritionist has recommended a low-carbohydrate diet.
There are some interesting points about the effects of white starch and sugar. For the sake of bringing some balance to the present obsession with high-carbohydrate, low-fat diets in North America, this book would be a useful read. It is necessary to have a balanced diet with foods from all food groups. If the advice is taken with a grain of salt and people aren't eating bacon, sausages, eggs, cheese and French toast for breakfast because of it, it might be useful. Atkins also sells a line of products such as pancake syrup, muffins, bars, breads and other goods people might find appealing and they are available in most large grocery stores and pharmacies.
