Wolves of the Calla

Book Review by: Pitcat

Original Author: Stephen King
As a one time Stephen King fan, it was a long time since i had visited the undoubted master of horror, after becoming disillusioned
some years ago. It seemed to me that at some time in the past King had left behind his desire to write literature and replaced it by a desire to earn easy money. All of his works seemed to, too closely, follow a tried and tested recipe of easy success and much like many successful people in all walks of life it seemed that King could reproduce any old material knowing that it would be an instant success.
So it was with little hopethat i embarked upon the Wolves of the Calla, after being gifted it as a Christmas present. But with this series of books King has left behind his horror formula and moved, not for the first time, into the realm of fantasy.
The test of any book, belonging to a series, is its ability to stand alone as a story in itself and after reading this book first without having read any of the preceding novels i was surprised to see that the author had achieved thenear impossible. Before the end of the story i found myself wanting to seek out the rest of the series and to familiarise myself with its history. And so i would recomend this novel not just as an individual story but also as an amazing series of books that will take the reader deep within the real mind of Stephen King and not just within his commercial persona.
