I know! What is that? Not so long ago,an aquaintance ofmine deemed it necessary that he should bring to my notice a "hip-hop"
song. having had more than a few regrettable encounters with the musicgenre, i was not too keen on this one. i was told that this song, however , would "blow my mind" . A few winces later and i find my ears cloggedwith the ear phones, poised to receive the hiphop product. And then itstarts ! a beat too many, a few unfathomable groans, and a much subduedvoice of a few women . A hint of
lyrics. " dance baby....
shake it...." I sat through most of those, but one of them , i just could not condone - "shake what yourmama give you " ! I know! What is that? beware music gods , poets, lyricists, artiists , all! just beware! lyrics are fast moving out out. They seem to have found a newneighborhood, giving way to , well, you know what ! it matters not what you
say anymore. "
tears in
heaven " anyone?bleh ! give it to a hip hop artist and it will boomerang back to you as-"
yo ! 'em tears in 'mah' heaven yo!" . sigh! I do not dislike hip hop. Not at all. My only concern, anda rather grave one too, is why it almost never has lyrics you wouldwant to remember. Why does most of hip hop only talk about lust? i think its a shame to those who are serious about hip hop ! Would love to see 50 cent take lyrics of a U2 song and fit his music in ! that should be fun ,what say bono? :)
