Book Review by: calmposer

Original Authors: Ram Oren; translated by Nir Sopher-Brockman

Ram Oren’s ‘Ashram’ takes place in a magical, mystical world where the scenes skip from Israel and Europe to India. The book
deals with the life of a lawyer and his seemingly normal relationship with his wife. It also tells about his regular cheats on her, his relentless pursuit after money and his wife’s boredom which leads her to an encounter with an Indian guru. All of these stories happen simultaneously. The lawyer’s life changes abruptly and is quickly deteriorating. As the story peaks his wife is suddenly reported missing, and is suspected to have perished. In an attempt to find the reasons for her death he travels to India where he reaches his very lowest – the most severe of situations he has ever been in. He experiences daily peril, hunger and hardship. He is haunted by danger whilst looking for those guilty of his wife’s death. Will he survive? Will the culprits be found? Why has his life gone to such lows? A thriller written with an outstanding flow and with Ram Oren’s usual flair. Not a single moment lets the reader down and every page is packed with adventure. This is a book not to be missed!Ashram – Ram OrenTranslated by Nir Sopher-Brockman
