Dr. Susan Forward, Ph.D is the author of several books including “Toxic Parents,” “Betrayal of Innocence,” “Obsessive Love,” “Money Demons,” "Emotional Blackmail,” “When Your Lover Is A Liar,” and “Men Who Hate Men and The Women Who Love Them.” Dr. Forward is one of the nation's leading psychotherapists who is also a much sought after lecturer. She is currently one of the leading relationship therapists in the country.
"Men Who Hate Women and The Women Who Love Them,” spent over 44 straight weeks at or near the top of every best seller list in America when it was first published in 1986. In 1994, NBC made a television special based on the book. “Men Who Hate Women...” is a useful introduction for women who find themselves coupled with an oppressive mate. With chapter titles such as “The most romantic man in the world,” How he gains control,” and “Madness for two,” Dr. Forward guides the reader through situations which demonstrate the personality of a misogynist. Dr. Forward's premise for such men's behavior is that his oppression is a controlling device. He will control his partner by taking away her freedom to work, to have friends, and especially financial decisions of any kind.
The second part of the book contains helpful information for the woman who is in a relationship with a misogynist. With chapter titles ranging from “How are you feeling?” to “Finding yourself again,” the reader learns how to regain those freedoms that she had previously relinquished. What seemed most surprising in this book was that the situations which Dr. Forward cited were lived by women who were incredibly intelligent, many of whom had had brilliant careers prior to their involvement with the oppressive men. The writing style of Dr. Forward's book is more conversational than clinical, which is why “Men Who Hate Women and The Women Who Love Them,” is a book that I recommend to anyone who is interested in repairing relationships controlled by misogyny.
