Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a complete domestic story woven with 18th century England's social necessity of marriage and courtship. Jane Austen had provided a blend of emotions with individual’s pride and prejudices in characterisation. Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy capture the maximum attention rather than the other characters. It would be appropriate to comment that Elizabeth’s prejudice and Darcy's pride takes the ultimate opportunity to interlink the plot with the other characters. Their first meeting paves the way for an interesting startand affords a basic link between the men and women characters, the same kind of link continues till they unite. What is the most interesting is the misunderstanding, which runs between them out of successive prejudices along with the conditioned perception to get married formed by Mrs.Bennet. Jane Austen’s exclusive focus on a pragmatic family surrounding will haunt the consciousness of the readers. From a literary perspective, additional effects have been given to the situation with the help of letters given by Darcy and Wickham etc. Mrs. Bennet, a mother living with a responsibility to get her daughters married to a well-settled bachelor, is in pursuit of suitable boys for them. She plays the role of enhancing the importance of marriage and courtship to her daughters, as a result she tries her best to do all the possible steps to make any one of her daughters to marry Mr.Bingley, a new bachelor who arrives next to their villa. Bingley, seems to have all the requirements needed for a able bachelor. Darcy is then introduced to this family circle, which is united with other characters of the play in a ball specially arranged to make these qualified youth to meet one another. The ball is a typical reflection featuring the condition under which each character lives. Particularly, their class differences, opinion differences etc. Elizabeth Bennet is not an exception form this, but she emerges out to be a trend setter among the others .The intelligent Elizabeth is well spoken and acts as a mouthpiece for her elder sister Jane, who appears to be a beauty living within controlled emotions. Elizabeth’s attraction towards Darcy and Jane’s towards Bingley takes different paths. However, the first pair seems to hold their liking towards each other until they get chance to reveal their mind. An exclusive picture of 18th century England portrayed by Jane Austen is yet another top feature of this novel. The role of Wickham, Kitty, Mary, Mr. Bennet, Lady Catherine De Borough etc help in experimenting with the main characters as well. Pride and Prejudice is a novel to be read if one needs to know what role does emotions and prejudices play in an individual’s life.
