I HAVE READ IN THE LAST DECADE
Firstly, I am a published
author with 4 books www.amazon.com or www.mandala -press.com and I have never downloaded a book from the internet before....HOWEVER, I came across a book titled THE GIG (Hashish
Cookies) by an author named FREE WHEELAN and this piqued my interest.
I am a major fan of gonzo journalism or writing genre and when I read the introduction to this book I simply had to have it. I remembed around 10 years ago picking up a very famous book (for those who like gonzo journalism) called FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS by the infamous HUNTER S.THOMPSON - and from that day on I was hooked.
Now, back to THE GIG by FREE WHEELAN. Firstly, i came across it completely by accident and the authors name intrigued me. I googled further and found that the book was available on www.lulu.com and still persisted to locate it. I must tell you that I am abolutely thrilled that I did because I never stopped laughing from start to end.
THE GIG is based in Ireland during the late 70's early 80's when the drug culture was under severe pressure by a police unit which was set up to CATCH THE BASTARDS. The name of this unit was THE MOCKY SQUAD and they were like the devil himself to anyone who liked a quiet smoke.
THE GIG is about seven friends (all characters) who set out one Saturday morning to see a Fleetwood Mac concert .... from there on it is just hilarious. The fact that the author himself FREE WHEELAN states that every character in the book, all the mad things that happened after they started with tequila slammers and backed hashish cookies, and everything that ensued was REAL; made the entire book even funnier.
Ienjoyed the download so much (at a small sum of 2.00) that i ordered the paperback version (8.25) to add to my treasured collection. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has smoked, likes Hunter S Thompson or just generally wants a good laugh at a true story and insight into the drug scene in Dublin Ireland at the time.
