British and American Short Stories

Book Review by: clavanour

Original Author: Simplified by G.C.Thornley,
The book, one issued under the generous ideas of Longman Simplified English Series, offers an easy and pleasant reading of
well-knpwn authors such as:Hebert Ernest Bates, James Thurber, William Somerset Maugham, William Saroyan, David Herbert Lawrence, O. Henry, Hector Hugh Munro, Mark Twain, Stephen Leacock and others.
The short stories chosen for this book are simplified and their destination are the readers for whom English is not the mother tongue. The stories are keeping the message and the beauty intented by their authors.
The book contains also a glossary and few exercises about the texts.
The reading of this book is a feast and opens the "apetite" to go and search other writings of the authors refered there.
I recommend this kind of reading to everybody who loves to read the original after having read the translation of any of these important writers.
