is the world's most magical castle located in Bavarian Alps. The castle was built by King Ludwig2
(1845-86 ). The castle is a tribute to the knights of German legends,it represents the fusion of dreams and wealth of King Ludwig of Bavaria and the artistic vision of the composer Richard Wagner.
From an early age, King Ludwig2 loved acting and dressing up and according to his grandfather King Ludwig1, he was constructing astonishing good structures with toy buildings.King Ludwig2 was a shy, sensitive and had vivid imagination. When he heard his first opera " Lohengrin
", he was so overwhelmed that he asked his father to summon the composer Richard Wagner
(1803-83), to restage the production just for him.
Although Ludwig was not musical, he offered money, advice ,criticism and inspiration.Through his work, Wagner in return gave a measure of reality to the dream world in which Ludwig preferred to exist. The impulse that attracted Ludwig to Wagner's music also lay behind his desire to construct fabulous castles, where his dreams could be enacted. This is howLudwig's dream to build Neuschawanstein castle began to take shape.Ludwig spared no expenses in making his fantasy filled dream come into reality. He called forth finest craftsmen, sculptors and woodcarvers.
He got so involved in materialising his fantasy world that he neglected his official duties, those that were expected of a king. The royal treasury was drained. The news of his eccentric behaviour enraged the ministeries. He has begun to take irregular midnight rides in a glided sleigh and once invited his horse to dine with him. He was taken from Neuschawanstein and imprisoned in the castle of Berg on Lake Starnberg
.Two days later, his body and that of his doctor's was found floating in the lake.
One man's dream transformed into reality by limitless wealth, Neuschawanstein is the epitome of theatrical design
