The Tower of the WindsStill standing in Athens today is the Horologion, or Tower of the Winds. This beautiful Hellenistic
sculpture is constructed of marble and stands about 46 feet (14 m) in height. It encloses a water clock, and sundials on each outer wall also helped keep the time in ancient Athens. The most striking features of the tower are the carvings of the eight winds, one from each major direction. Each wind is personified and is accompanied by an image of the type of weather associated with the particular wind plus an inscription preserving the Greek name of the wind.
