NINJA : CLAN OF DEATH

Book Review by: Ramesh Nayak

Original Authors: Al Weiss ; Tom Philbin
The Ninja is a complex mysterious character. He is very secretive, likes anonymity. Stealth is his strength. He is the master
of deception. He is having all the qualities, a modern day spy would like to have and much more. He is not a public demonstrator. Hence not much is known to the people about the Ninja Clan except a lot of fiction in action packed thrillers. Ninjas, the practioners of “ Ninjutsu “, a Japanese martial art are having a long history. Having humble origin during peaceful times in ancient Japan, it is astounding how they were transformed into violent mercenaries with incredible capabilities over a period of time.Their ability to strike and disappear at will has made many people to believe in their supernatural powers. Their power and energy are result of rigorous training, not only physical, spiritual and mental too. Their supreme self confidence is due to inner enlightment and outer awareness.Ninjas are very good empty handed fighters. Both in offence as well as defence they are experts but their combating prowess with weapons is unmatching. They are adept in using unusual lethal weapons which can be well concealed in their dress or body parts. They use implements such as foot spikes for climbing and scaling insurmountable heights. They have multipurpose climbing claws that can be used as weapons also. Suriken are multipointed star shaped weapons which can be thrown from a distance. If coated with poison they would surely be death messengers. They are experts in using array of such unusual weapons like mantriki, with weighted ends by which they can strike, trap, choke the opponents. They have knives strapped to the back, daggers strapped to the forearms and hidden blowguns with needle like darts, what not! And they can innovate too. If attacked while eating they can use chopsticks as weapons.Ninjas create awesome fear in the opponents by their gruesome acts. Even Samurai who are known for legendary courage were afraid of Ninjas. They have no inhibitions in using arson, treason or assassination to achieve their goals. They love killing by poisoning. They penetrate impregnable defences and surprise the enemies. It is believed that during World War, the Japanese high command had Ninja trained troops to assassinate the targets. Ninja has great stamina, he carries nutritious light foods along with him which last for a long time. He can stay under water for a considerable time. He can treat his ailments as well as wounds himself. He misleads the opponents and strike them when least expected. He can do incredible things such as feigning injuries and dislocation of arms. He can rotate the neck, very hard to believe. Can there be a better commando if what we learnt about them is all true?
