Reason and Imagination in C.S. Lewis: a Study of Till

Book Review by: SDobui

Original Author: Schakel, Peter J.
This text explores the parallel between the "Glomian" Ungit and Venus, the mythical Greek goddess of love, and introduces
the theme of the love myths of ancient Greek times being similar to that of Lewis’s creation. Believing that Ungit is Lewis''s equivalent of Venus. It also posits the idea of jealousy being a central theme of any story about love or beauty, because not everyone experiences the same enjoyable relationships, but struggles to find something greater and better. This text also discusses the need for Orual to find beauty in both Ungit and Ungit’s son. Once she has found this beauty, she will be able to move from fear to awe; from awe to appreciation; and, ultimately, from appreciation to love.
