Missing Mountains

Book Review   by:Traci Brown     Original Authors: Silas House; Wendell Berry
ª

Mountain Top removal became a big issue in Kentucky. People that have lived in those valley''s and mountains for years have been pushed around and forced out of their homes by coal companies that refuse to believe anything is occuring.

In Missing Moutanins, several writers, some big time writers, others just getting started decided to take a tour of this so called ''safe practice'' and were frustrated at what the say. Clean streams that you could have drank from were not dirty and polluted with coal dust, soot and rocks from the destroyed moutains. Families that lived very close to the mining wouldn''t let their children play outside anymore because they''d come in covered in black soot. Some houses suffered long term damage from constant blasting 12 hours a day.

The authors write and rally against big time coal companies, their unethical practices, and fight for what they believe is theirs. Their mountains, their homes, their lives.
